Editorial policy
Northern Food Culture aims to make food writing clear, careful and useful. We distinguish established context from interpretation, check details before publication and correct the record when something is wrong.
Accuracy and context
We review names, terms, dates and factual claims before publication, using appropriate reference material where needed. Food customs vary within regions and families, so we avoid presenting one version as universal. When a subject is uncertain or accounts differ, we make that uncertainty clear rather than smoothing it away.
Independence
Editorial choices are made for their relevance to readers and the publication's subject. A commercial relationship does not buy favourable coverage or control over an editorial conclusion. If material has been supplied or a relationship could affect how a piece is understood, we explain that clearly.
Corrections
Readers can flag a possible error through the Contact page. We review the concern, check the relevant detail and amend published material when a correction is warranted. Where a change alters the meaning of a piece, we make the correction clear to readers.
Partners and illustrations
Paid or partner material is labelled so readers can distinguish it from independent editorial work. Some illustrations may be generated with AI; when they are, they are identified as such. Illustrations are not presented as documentary evidence of a particular dish, person or place.
